Never Risk lands €83,000 handicap hurdle at Pau
For the second year running, Never Risk came home in front in the valuable Prix Rene Cramail at Pau, eclipsing even his performance from last year with a wide-margin success in the colours of Sangwin Bloodstock.
The seven year old had run a fine prep race for yesterday’s contest when fourth at the track at the beginning of the month. We had been concerned about the very heavy going, but supersub Johnny Charron (in place of the unavailable Gabin Meunier) was able to find the best ground, charting his own path around the inside of the track. The Hugo Merienne-trained Never Risk is at his very best at Pau and quickened smartly in the conditions to go clear approaching the last, before keeping on well for a very comfortable success.
He has now won over €140,000 since being claimed for owner Will Sangwin just 14 months ago and it is fantastic to get another Quinte win on the board at the beginning of what promises to be a very exciting year ahead for Will, who has a strong team of horses in training for 2026.
