Successful day at Arqana Summer Sale

 In Nathaniel Barnett Bloodstock News

The opening day of the Arqana Summer Sale 2025 was held in scorching temperatures and the market for the two year old stores at times felt similarly hot!

Unnamed Beaumec De Houelle

We had a couple of bids in the early part of the session without striking, but were delighted to land an unnamed son of Beaumec De Houelle to get us underway.  He is a half-brother to the smart prospect Metronomique, who has finished second on both starts in juvenile hurdles this term in France for Noel George.  This scopey individual from Haras du Buff is out of a half-sister to the high-class French chaser Vieux Morvan and was purchased for €55,000.

L’Astrobale

Next up was L’Astrobale, a beautiful daughter of Latrobe and out of La Vista, making her a full sister to Olga De Kiev.  The last-named looked a top-class prospect when bolting up in the Grade 3 Prix Sagan at the Grand Steeple meeting in May.  Consigned by Jean-Marie Callier, I thought she was the pick of the fillies on the day and, amongst them, she made a joint session-topping €85,000.

Dino D’Or

The final purchase on the day was Dino D’Or (pictured), from Alban Chevalier du Fau’s Channel Consignment.  By the outstanding Doctor Dino, sire of Sangwin Bloodstock’s recent Auteuil winner Fort Dino, he is from a brilliant Devin family that goes back to the likes of Grade 1 Prix La Haye Jousselin winner Shannon Rock.  We all loved him and really pushed to make him our third purchase of the afternoon.  The hammer came down at €120,000 and I’m delighted to have purchased him, as he has all the makings of a classy individual.  The team (pictured below) were certainly all smiles afterwards!

With several opportunities coming up privately at present, we decided against adding to the purchases from the horses in training catalogue.  We did have a bid on one filly to stay in France, but she rightly made a little more to go to the UK.

It was a brilliant few days in Deauville.  It is a wonderfu place, we were very well looked after at Arqana and, as always, highly recommend dinner at Les Petits Princes!
