€56,000 handicap win for recent claim Never Risk

Never Risk was claimed for owners Sangwin Holdings Ltd at Auteuil in November, and the five year old son of No Risk At All recouped all of his purchase price (and more!) when winning in style at Pau yesterday in the hands of Gabin Meunier.

Hugo Merienne has his string in outstanding form and he has clearly worked the oracle with Never Risk, who looked a much-improved performer yesterday. Jumping fluently, Gabin did a fine job of settling him in behind the leaders and, from when he was sent into the lead at the top of the straight, he always looked likely to repel all challengers.

It has been an exceptional week for the French bloodstock purchases, with Dear Weaver winning for Chantilly Thoroughbreds at Fontainebleau on Tuesday, Never Risk at Pau on Sunday, and Zurich making a hugely promising debut for Henry de Bromhead at Punchestown – he looks a horse to follow in the year ahead.

Never Risk could well go chasing in the coming weeks, while we also have the option of running in a €110,000 Quinte handicap hurdle at the turn of the year. Many congratulations to his owners!
